Let's talk denim trends of 2018. It’s no secret that vintage inspired denim has taken over the likes of the modern day skinny jean. This year vintage inspired denim is going one step further with exposed flies and bejewelled details.
Attention to detail is the new effortless, this means embroidery and embellishment is the new craze.
But let’s start with the exposed fly.
Whether it is an exposed zip (the more modern take) or a traditional 90’s button up, if you are baring your fly… you are on trend.
This trend kicked off in Spring 2017 when Off White debuted an inside out “o ring” fly on the runway. The vibe of the night was vintage meets modern because as you know, throwbacks are all the rage.
Alexander Wang was also first on the exposed fly bandwagon with a cut across exposed button fly worn by Kendall Jenner in hid runway show.
Bejewelled denim details are also said to be a new obsession in 2018.
This will include pearls, embroidered badges, jewels, frayed hems and even graffiti.
Fast-fashion brands like Mango have released pearl jeans, while designer label Isabel Marant have also stuck with the pearl theme. If you want to keep on trend but not feeling the feminine vibes of the pearls, exposed stitching and frayed hems are also being defined as embellished this season.
If all this talk about denim is getting you a little excited then prepare yourself. At James Smith we are launching our new denim slides. Sold out but available end of Feb 2018 we have our washed blue denim slide with frayed edges and these slides are some of our coolest yet.
We have also officially announced an exclusive design in a light pink denim.
