It’s that time of year when everyone’s guessing as to what will be the Fashion Trends to look out for in 2018.
Word on the street is that the fashion forecast is set to bring back a few oldies. We’re not surprised given that fashion is cyclical.
From head accessories to fabrics, 2018 is about having a bit of fun and pushing the 2017 boundaries. We are also predicting the return of a few statement pieces from the ‘80s and 2000s.
Check out what we’ve seen just may be the fashion trends to look out for in 2018 below.
The Scrunchy Returns
It wasn’t that long ago that Carrie on Sex and the City balked at the thought of wearing a scrunchie. Little was she to know that scrunchies would make a return on the Balenciaga catwalk.
Bright leather scrunchies were said to be one of the standouts. This 90’s hair accessory is set to make a come back in 2018 along with the humble designer hair scarf.
Gym Kitsch
No, we aren’t talking sports chic or Nike leggings in 2018. What we are seeing are pieces like satin boxer shorts, clunky sneakers and platform slides courtesy of Fenty X Puma and Vetements.
Think post gym attire. It’s what everyone’s referring to as ‘Athleisure’. By definition it’s casual clothing designed to be worn both for exercising and for general use, however 2018 is leaning more toward the general use side.
The Shining
Most women generally like shiny things so we aren’t surprised that shiny material is a go in 2018. Versace pulled rank at the end of 2017 with their jaw dropping vintage 90’s supermodel finale. Featuring Naomi Campbell, Cindy Crawford, Claudia Schiffer, Carla Bruni, and Helena Christensen, the ladies rocked gold chainmail gowns.
Since then we’ve seen a lot of designers showcasing either shiny or metallic pieces. At the moment trousers are the best shiny statement yet. Whether they are tailored and tight for a night out or resembling more of a sport chic vibe for a street style win.

Ballet Vibes
We’re seeing trends take a few fashion cues from the world of ballet in 2018. Think demure pastels and silky sheer blouses. Gucci showcased a clean all pink suit on the runway which has giving the ok for block out colours this season too.
